The Dandy's Turf Suppliers History Page
Dandy's is a family business which was established
back in 1826 by James Dandy.
James and his family sold fruit and vegetables grown in high quality soil on their own fields in Chester.
The family only sold the best, an ethos which continues today. James Dandy soon became known for his eye for quality products.
As sales grew and more people and hotels wanted Dandy's home grown produce, James Dandy opened his first shop in Chester's Old Market.

The business changed direction in the mid 1950's moving into haulage and specifically the distribution of coal from Chester to power stations across the UK.
Further changes where made to the businesses direction in the late 1970's when the then owner, another James Dandy! Was offered a small quantity of topsoil for sale. James must have inherited his Grandfather's keen eye for quality, as within the years to come Dandy's became synonymous locally for high quality topsoil.
Today, now known as Dandy's Topsoil and Gravel Supplies, the family business is widely regarded as Britain's Leading Topsoil Supplier, the only topsoil supplier to screen their soil as finely as 5mm as standard.
Dandy's are ranked No.1 by Google and other major search engines under search terms 'topsoil' and 'top soil,' as well as many other keywords.
Dandy's Topsoil are also proud to be co-founders of 'The British Topsoil Suppliers Association,' which was created to protect both suppliers and buyers of topsoil, by producing a quality standard of it's own, which all topsoil suppliers within the association adhere to. This in turn gives buyers in turn the assurance that the soil they order will be of excellent quality both visually and chemically. The creation of the BTSA was required due to the sudden influx of poor, contaminated soils, mainly from skip waste companies as a way to avoid increased landfill taxes.
Dandy's soil remains a family run business, owned by Adam Dandy and his wife Clare, Adam is James's Great Great Grandson.
Dandy's Topsoil and Gravel supplies deliver to thousands of customers every year. Including gardeners in Land's End to John o'Groats, Dandy's also supply companies such as BBC1 and ITV gardening shows, famous celebrities, local councils as well as schools nationwide.
In 2006 Dandy's Topsoil delivered some products to the head buyer from Woolworths PLC. The buyer was so impressed with the service he received, as well as the outstanding quality of the landscape products he bought for his house, he contacted Dandy's and asked them to supply all of his customers with the same service. Today you can buy Dandy's Topsoil, Gravel, Bark, Compost and many other other items from over 852 Woolworth's Stores across the UK.
